November 5, 2009 By Greg SwatekNews-Post Staff Saturday at 2 p.m. # Thomas Johnson (5-4) at Frederick (4-5): This will be the 44th meeting between these city rivals with TJ holding a 28-15 advantage all-time. The Patriots need to win this game to ensure a fourth consecutive playoff trip. They hold the fourth and final spot in the Class 4A North playoffs with 56 accumulated points, which gives them a two-point lead over Perry Hall. Frederick , meanwhile, is hoping to snap a four-game losing streak to TJ. The Cadets beat South Hagerstown, 41-6, on the road last week, as sophomore receiver Jalen Gee set a school record for most receptions in one game and tied the record for receptions in a season. Gee finished the game with nine catches for 105 yards and four touchdowns. He has 57 receptions for the season. Friday at 7 p.m. # Walkersville (6-3) at Middletown (5-4): There's a lot riding on this game between two arch rivals. The winner will have a good shot of reaching the Class 2A West playoffs, while the loser will be eliminated. Also factoring into this game is the outcome of the game between Winters Mill and Westminster. Winters Mill only trails Walkersville by a point for the fourth and final spot in the region and the Falcons would pick up extra points with a win since Westminster is a 4A School. The Lions are coming off a 47-8 victory at Brunswick , while Middletown is looking to bounce back from a 35-28 loss at unbeaten Catoctin. Middletown has reached the playoffs in each of the last four seasons, while Walkersville hasn't played in the postseason since 2004. To read more, click here |
